Habakkuk 2:2-3
"Write the vision, make it plain so he may run who reads it. For still the vision awaits its appointed time; it hastens to the end - it will not lie. If it seems slow, wait for it; it will surely come; it will not delay."

John 15:5
"I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing."

Our Story

Welcome to our shop! My name is Samara Wohlfiel, and my husband Derek and I are the grateful owners of The Vine Baking Co. We are a Coffee Shop - Bakery, currently providing artisan baked goods, craft coffee, custom cakes and catering platters to the Tampa Bay community.

The vision for this company was first ignited as a young girl. I would stand beside my mother in the kitchen, and watch in awe as she crafted edible works of art with her own two hands. There was no better way for me to spend my time than cooking dinners for my family and baking up cakes for my friends.

In December of 2014 I got the honor of working at Zion Cafe in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Run by the organization Lighthouse in Action, this cafe is not just a coffee shop, but a self-sustaining ministry. They use their business to help rescue women out of the Bar/Sex Industry, and then employ said women at the cafe. Ultimately providing them with a steady income and an encouraging, safe environment.

Zion Cafe isn't alone in their efforts. There are hundreds of 'Coffee Shop Ministries' around the world, all trying to love thy neighbor through a simple cup of joe. It was in this season that everything clicked. This, I found, is where my passion and my greater purpose collide.

I returned to the United States that following July and had my heart set on starting our very own Bakery/Coffee Shop. I prayed long and hard about the shop's purpose and mission. There was rejection and self-doubt, multiple roadblocks and ridicule, but I knew this was the vision, and I was committed to it whole heartedly.

During some time of prayer, I stumbled upon two passages in the Bible:
